Carand Burnet (she/her) is a musician who is the leader of the band Kioea and performs under the name Angel Lake. Her compositions blend surf rock, psychedelia, and global influences. Burnet’s music evokes a daydream-like mood using heavy reverb effects, energetic guitar solos, and atmospheric sitar and synthesizer. J. Swartwood (Aquarium Drunkard) describes Burnet’s music as “simultaneously modern and vintage.” Jason M. Rubin (The Arts Fuse) adds, “Burnet’s surf guitar takes the listener on journeys of their own, all of which feeds a desire to hear more.”
Burnet has performed at venues including The Music Hall, 3S Artspace, The Thing in the Spring Festival, The All Roads Music Festival, NOVA Arts, and elsewhere. Bandcamp has selected her music twice as “New and Notable” releases. Editorial Director J. Edward Keyes writes, “Dazzling guitar work forms the centerpiece of the new EP from Kioea, featuring exploratory songs that hold a tight grip.” Burnet’s song “Amber” was featured on 92.5 The River’s Homegrown Music Showcase. She recently received a Maine ARP Grant to support her band’s new album.
