Kioea release their debut EP May 6th on CD and Digital Formats via Bandcamp and Bull Moose Music.

Kioea (pronounced key-oh-ee-ah) debuts their self-titled EP, inviting listeners into the world of psychedelic music. Named a “New and Notable Release,” by Bandcamp (5/7/22), Kioea uses the guitar to explore multiple musical lineages, from surf instrumentals to global influences.

Since its inception in 2019, Kioea has been a project led by electric guitarist Carand Burnet. Supported by bassist Ian DeCelli and drummer Jake Remignanti, the trio has ventured further into psychedelia with expansive compositions that include echoed guitar solos and fuzzed-out bass.

Burnet shares the process that shaped the EP:

“My artistic practice begins when I record guitar chords into a loop pedal or cassette machine and make a backing track. I play the track and overlay notes. My goal is to create a guitar melody acting like the voice singing each song. When satisfied with the structure, I bring the composition to my bandmates. Together we work out the dynamics and groove.”

Kioea (pronounced key-o-e-ah / key-oh-ee-ah) is a band based in Maine and the New Hampshire Seacoast Region comprised of Carand Burnet, Ian DeCelli, and Jake Remignanti.  Founded in 2019 by bandleader and electric guitarist Carand Burnet, Kioea is named after a Hawaiian word that means “Stand Tall.”

Kioea blends surf rock with characteristics of psychedelia, jazz, and global influences. Burnet’s performances feature surf rock’s energetic speed combined with complex guitar solos. Kioea has played at venues across New England including The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH, and was featured on WMUR’s Summer Concert Series.
